A few years ago, I started an online WordPress Community through the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN). NTEN is the membership organization for nonprofit technology professionals.
I’ve been an NTEN member for 12 or 13 years (I’ve lost track) and early on, there was always a large Drupal component in NTEN’s programming. Drupal online community, Drupal Day at their annual NTC conference, etc. I knew there had to be other WordPress users in the larger NTEN community, so started to rally that crowd with breakout sessions at the conference (“A WordPress Users Gathering”). A few years of that led to a WordPress Day finally being put onto the conference agenda (which I take zero credit for organizing – I may have just fanned the flames) and I figured it would be good to start an online group to keep the momentum going year-round.
We have excellent conversations on the forum and I learn so much from a bunch of smart, savvy WordPress users. One thing about being a web developer: there will always be people who know more than you do and from whom you can learn, and there will always be people who know less than you do and whom you can help with your own knowledge. This is what we do in the WP Community, share information on techniques, themes, plugins – all kinds of good stuff.
